FAQ

FOR WHOM ARE SERVICES AVAILABLE?

We are licensed clinical psychologists in the state of California. Therefore, therapy services are available for California residents. Coaching services are available to anyone in the US.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

That can be a difficult question to answer, and we understand that seeking therapy services can be a confusing and difficult process. On a basic level, consider if you are experiencing mental health challenges, such as anxiety, burn out, or feeling down, or feel that your daily functioning is suffering. Moment in Mind therapists do NOT offer emergency services. Beyond that, we offer a free initial consultation to discuss your current concerns so you can make an informed decision about whether our services are a good fit for you.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Moment in Mind charges $225/hr for all therapy and coaching services. We accept all major credit / debit cards.

YOUR FEES SEEM HIGHER THAN SOME THERAPISTS. WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER YOU?

Fair question! I provide short-term, evidence-based therapy and coaching. What does this mean? We will work together to get you to where you want to be, in as few sessions as possible, using services that have been shown to be effective. Many of my clients feel they are done with therapy anywhere from 4-16 sessions, depending on presenting concerns / goals. In a short amount of time, I help people build clarity, stability, and hope, through deeper self-understanding, learning how to deal with thoughts and feelings that serve as roadblocks to our wellness and goals, develop emotional resilience, build a meaningful life and career, and approach problems and decisions with confidence and less regret.

HOW DO I KNOW IF SHORT-TERM THERAPY OR COACHING IS WHAT I NEED? WHAT IF I NEED LONGER-TERM SERVICES?

It is true that some concerns might require longer term services. However, not all problems, even some very difficult problems, require months or years of therapy. We offer free consultations where we can figure out together if Moment in Mind services are a good fit.  Services are not limited to a certain number of sessions, of course. We continually check-in with clients to ensure progress is being made, and to build clients up so they feel they are developing skills, new perspectives, and deeper self-knowledge that will serve them well into the future.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

We are considered an out-of-network provider for insurance providers, with the exception of employees with Lyra Health benefits. We do not accept other insurance plans. However, many insurance providers accept a “superbill” for therapy services, and will offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network therapists. If this is a possibility with your provider, we are happy to supply the required documentation. Coaching services are not covered by insurance providers.

THE MENTAL HEALTH FIELD CAN BE CONFUSING, WITH DIFFERENT CREDENTIALS, TRAINING, AND QUALIFICATIONS. HOW DO I KNOW IF MOMENT IN MIND SERVICES ARE WHAT I NEED?

Seeking therapy can be a confusing process, and it can be challenging for consumers to know what they’re getting. Here’s a sample of a Moment in Mind therapist’s experience.

Sarah A. Miller, PhD (Founder, Moment in Mind), has Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Counseling Psychology from a top-ranked program, where she dedicated her clinical and research investigations to wellness, wellness in the workplace, and short-term behavioral interventions. She completed a competitive pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship with the Department of Veterans Affairs, receiving advanced training in evidence-based psychotherapies, short-term therapies, and health psychology. This means she completed ~4000 hours of supervised clinical training experiences.

She then went on to serve as a National Program Coordinator in Problem Solving Training for the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping to train hundreds of clinicians in simple, practical, and evidence-based techniques that got Veterans back on their feet and back into their lives as quickly as possible without diving deep into their past. Since transitioning to the private sector, she has worked with people who struggle in their daily lives, collaboratively building meaning, fulfillment, hope, and success.

Beyond that, Sarah believes herself to be a consumer advocate, dedicated to providing only best practices to her clients. When you go to a medical doctor, you expect to receive treatments that have research support, and it’s her belief that individuals seeking mental health care deserve the same.
